Get Your Family Back on Track

With a Summer Getaway in Daytona Beach

Family beach time

We’re all guilty. Families living together. But separately.

We live in the same house. Eat the same dinners. Go to the same places. But we spend more time on our Instagram accounts and in our emails than we do with each other.

And those are the moments not filled with soccer practice, packing lunches, after work client meetings, and grocery shopping.

Let this be the summer we change all that.

A family vacation is the perfect way to do it.

In a national survey conducted by, they discovered that Canadians viewed vacations as “medicine for the body, mind, and soul”, with 83% of the respondents saying they feel relaxed and rejuvenated when they returned from a vacation. They also responded that they felt closer to their family.

During the school year, we’re away from our families at least eight hours a day. It’s important for our vacation to be a time for us to get away with each other. To get away from friends and work. And away from our technology. This gives us an opportunity to connect – uninterrupted.

That why it’s a great idea to choose a laid back destination like Daytona Beach. Amusement parks and similar destinations foster harried schedules and separate activities – sort of the opposite of what you want to achieve!

That’s not to say there’s nothing to do in Daytona Beach. Quite the opposite, actually. It’s just that the activities here promote physical activity, conversation, and family togetherness.

mini golf

Here are a few low-key ways to reconnect with your family in Daytona Beach this summer:

Mini golf: Dad may be out on the course every weekend, but there’s a good chance the kids will beat him at mini golf every time.

Beach time: Whatever the age of your kids, there’s a wide range of options for you. Smaller kids (and even some older kids!) enjoy making sand castles, digging trenches, and building forts. Kids of all ages are usually up for a game of badminton or bocce ball.

Surfing lessons: The family who surfs together stays together – or something like that, right? It’s always fun to learn something new. And chances are there will be lots of things to laugh about for years to come!

Jet ski rental: Let the jet ski do all the work for you! Various local outfitters rent them, and it’s an exciting way to explore the Atlantic, the Intracoastal Waterway, or the backwater estuaries.

Kayaking: If surfing and jet skiing are a little too adventurous for your family, maybe a tamer ride is in order. The slower pace gives you an opportunity to see the rich and varied wildlife in the area.

Sit down as a family prior to your trip and make a “wish list” of what you want to do. Often times, the excitement of planning activities starts creating a bond before you even leave. Book your family Daytona Beach summer vacation now!
